NCSE's Wendy Johnson contributed a guest commentary, "Disentangling Science & Ideology is More Important Than Ever" (subscription required), to the September 2026 issue of The American Biology Teacher.
"If we hope for our students to become critical consumers of science in their everyday lives, we must give them the tools they need to disentangle credible scientific knowledge from values-based ideological perspectives," her commentary concluded. "This requires science educators not only to teach about the practices and products of science, but also to offer students ample opportunities to analyze socioscientific issues, evaluate misinformation, and critique real-world claims in the media."
Johnson took the opportunity to promote NCSE's classroom-friendly tool DataWISE, which "directly engages students in learning to distinguish ideological perspectives from scientific information." DataWISE is freely available.
