What We’re Up Against: Ambidextrous Creationist DNA

The God Proofs book cover.

Douglas Ell’s The God Proofs: How Science Points to YOUR Creator (2024), a recent offering from Discovery Institute Press, is described by its publisher as “a delightful new graphic novel” whose protagonists “explore the wonders of science, challenge each other’s beliefs, and uncover mind-boggling facts about the universe.” Images of four DNA molecules are scattered across the cover, but three of them are erroneously — even mind-bogglingly — depicted as left-handed, while a fourth is correctly depicted as right-handed. (True, there is a rare left-handed variant of DNA, called Z-DNA, but it isn’t simply a mirror image of ordinary DNA.) Constant readers will recall that the Institute for Creation Research introduced a new logo incorporating a left-handed DNA molecule in 2022 but subsequently silently flipped it. Also shown on the cover of The God Proofs is a Rubik’s Cube with its colors wrong: a visible edge piece is white on both faces.
